Horizons at NCCS Staff Updates

Dear Horizons at NCCS Community,

I am thrilled to announce two new hires to the Horizons at NCCS team. First, Ruth Ann (Ruthie) Phillips-Cruz will join as the Director of Student and Family Programs at Horizons at NCCS. In this role, Ruthie will be responsible for developing and implementing the academic and enrichment components of the summer and school year programs, along with hiring and managing the summer and school year staff. She will work closely with the Executive Director to create programs that support the growth and development of the whole child.

Ruthie has deep roots in Horizons, serving in multiple teaching and operational capacities in Horizons at Sacred Heart University, Horizons at Greens Farms Academy, and Horizons Bridgeport. We are thrilled to know she will bring her extensive experience to NCCS - and admire her strong desire to be a part of this flagship community!

I I am also thrilled to share that Stachakay (Kay) Silvera, LMSW will join the team as the Director of Community Connections and Social Work. In this role, Kay will be responsible for developing deep connections with community agencies that serve children and families along with providing direct social work services to Horizons at NCCS families. She will work closely with the Executive Director to provide services that support the growth and development of the whole child.

Kay is a licensed social worker, an adjunct professor at Sacred Heart University, and non-profit Executive Director of Beautiful Inside and Out, Inc. She is also a certified Mindfulness Informed Professional and a certified school social worker. We are thrilled that her skillset will be so beautifully matched with her new role at Horizons at NCCS.

Ruthie and Kay will join the team on Monday, March 3rd and can be reached at: rphillips@horizonskids.org and ssilvera@horizonskids.org. Please join me in welcoming Ruthie and Kay!

I am also wanting to take this opportunity to share news of StacyAnn Brown’s departure from Horizons at NCCS and to express our deepest gratitude for the impact she has had here during her tenure as our Academic Director. We will miss Stacy’s presence and compassion for our students and families. In this time of transition, I ask that caregivers reach out directly to me for support with academic needs. In the meantime know that we stand fully prepared to meet our commitments to the Horizons mission and to supporting our community.

Sincerely,

Leanne Tormey, EdD
Executive Director
Horizons at NCCS
